About

Jurre Jan - or JJ as he is often called – is a Professional Photographer, Certified Wilderness Guide and Northern Lights Guide.
Jurre Jan was born in The Netherlands, but has lived in Tromsø, northern Norway for the past 5 years, chasing the Northern Lights and photographing the natural beauty the Arctic has to offer. Over the years he has gained a lot of knowledge about these Arctic landscapes, the dynamic weather and all the challenges and opportunities that come with it.

In the past two years he has completed the Wilderness guide course and is now certified as a Wilderness Guide Level 1.
Throughout the years he has gained recognition and has been awarded for his photographic work.

After years of gaining experience and knowledge, he has now taken the step to offer this knowledge and experience to others. He does this in the form of adventurous photography tours. A type of tour that goes beyond the roadside locations and includes more adventure in order to take those unique photographs.

Artist Statement

The driving force behind my landscape photography is my fascination for the natural world around me. Namely the rough, wild and atmospheric places. These are the places that make me return there again and again, to discover further and to give me more understanding and meaning of a place.
I take photos to discover new places and to rest my mind, to be one with nature and be free of the busy daily world we live in. When my mind is at rest I can focus on the things that are important to me, often the fragile, quiet, enchanting and hopeful elements. Like a tree, patterns on a rock face, the movement of water or just the silence.
I compose my images in such a way that not everything is clear to the viewer at the first glance. If I, while knowing what the landscape looks like, still wonder what’s happening outside of the frame, then I have achieved my goal.
I work on at least one bigger project at the time, I work on these projects to learn about my subjects in a more extensive way than just being at a location at a given time. In this way I make and feel a true connection with a place and I believe that this shows in the resulting work.
